Multi Feature AV Harness

The Edimator is a full Non-Linear Digital Editing (NLDE) and Animation system for desktop PC computers. The Edimator installs easily in any ISA slot and requires only a standard SCSI Hard Drive (not included). Due to it's profound performance capabilities, the Edimator does not require the expensive, special AV hard drives used by other NLDE's.

Included with the Edimator is a multi-feature input/output breakout cable harness, driver software for Windows 3.1 or Win95, and a special version of Imagine 4.0 for rendering 3D animations directly to Edimator video.

Installation is suprisingly quick and easy. Simply plug the full span Edimator board into any ISA slot, connect the SCSI cable from the edimator to the your SCSI drive, connect power to the drive, and install the software in Windows.

Once installed, you are ready to record broadcast quality video at 60 fields per second and full 16 bit, CD quality, stereo audio directly to the Edimator's SCSI drive .

The Edimator employs sophisticated algorythms that compress the incoming AV data via "Dynamic Compression." In short, this means that the Edimator compresses information based on content as opposed to a fixed compression ratio which can lead to unnecessary compression and degradation of video and audio data.

The Edimator will accept input on 4 seperate stereo audio and video channels. Video input can be NTSC or PAL in composite RA170a or S Video signals -- On the same board!

Video recording is done with the industry standard motion JPEG process used by systems costing thousands, even tens of thousands, more.

The special version of Imagine 4.0 that comes with the Edimator will streamline the process of rendering 24 bit animations to video and in using live video backdrops in your animations. When combined with the motion blur and field rendering found in Imagine, you get the highest quality broadcast output possible. Your animations have never looked this good. After using it, you will wonder how you ever got by without the Edimator.

Edimator Software Overview

Reviewing the controls of the Edimator software, you will see it is very easy to use. You can create a movie with various clips that you easily load into the clip library. You can extablish the start and stop or trim each clip. All the data regarding the clip is displayed for easy viewing.

The Edimator software also offers many other features that will become invaluable to the animator and videographer alike. Video that has been captured can be rendered out to the system drive and used as a digital backdrop in Imagine. Now you can put your animated charcaters in a real video world creating stunning special effects. You can make your own dinosaur movie with very little effort. Also the "import" button allows you to import numbered rgb files to create an animation.

For the stop motion animator, the Edimator offers seamless single frame recording. All you need is a standard video camera, and you can be recording animations by triggering single frame captures. Used side-by-side with traditional film recorders, the Edimator can serve as a quick preview and frame checker during the recording progress. For the user that will be taking advantage of the single frame features, Impulse has created a remote, single frame trigger device so that you won't be tied to the computer and the keyboard as you work. The remote trigger is also a complete remote controller for the Edimator so that you can scrub back and forth in the recording without touching the computer.

Time Lapse recording is also included with the Edimator. We know of no other mid-priced systems that will allow this kind of use; either Time Lapse or Single Frame.

Recording video clips is as simple as routing video through any of the video inputs and then clicking on the record button. Once recorded the user can add the clip to the movie. The beginning and ending frames of the clip are displayed so that you can easily see which video you are working with.

We know, and you will too, that there is no other software available for any system that is easier to use and more productive in a production environment. Your time is money and you won't ve wasting your time with the Edimator. It gets you going and done on time and on schedule.

SPECIAL NOTICE

We realize not eveyone has an extra $3000.00 laying around. Never-the-less you still may want to get your animations out to video tape. Doing so with other products that convert the digital signal of your VGA card into a NTSC signal is either expensive or the quality is so poor that it is not worth the money spent. WE have a few Edimators that we have named the

EDIMATOR LITE

The specs for the EL are the same as the Edimator Pro with the exception that the EL does NOT record video or audio. You can still import your rendered images to the drive attached to the EL and then play them back at 30 Frames per second. In many cases this is all that you want to do because you have the video recorders with audio dubbing, making the process a bit eaiser.

If this is what you want to do and don't need the recording and editing ability offered with the Edimator Pro. You can save $1500.00. The Edimator Lite sells for $1395.00. It comes with the same software as the Edimator Pro, you just won't be able to record video and CD audio. IN the event that you decide at a later date that you need the video recording, you can upgrade to the Edimator Pro, by sending us the card and we will upgrade the EL to the EP.. The cost for doing this the difference between the EP and the EL, with shipping the cost to upgrade to the EP is just over $1500.00

Should you want more info, drop us a note by email (at the bottom of this page) and we will gladly send you some more goodies that will help you make that all important decision to move to the next digital level.
